SUMMARY:Feb G3 - A Bird's Eye View- The Latest On The Tokyo Olympics
DESCRIPTION:The Olympic’s are returning to Tokyo.  After 4 years of hearing about the Olympics\, the year has finally arrived.  The last Olympics Tokyo saw were in 1964.  Japan made a lot of effort to build up for the Olympics with one of the main accompaniments many use every day being the Shuto expressway.  In 2019\, the World Cup Rugby tournament lit the fires to see more athletics with events around Japan and drawing millions of visitors to Japan from around the world.\n\nIn the February CEO Insights Tuesday lunch\, we will be talking about what we can expect to see in business\, transportation\, hospitality\, and the overall impact of the Olympics on Japan this time.  Visiting the lunch will be CEO of STH Hospitality Mr. Brendan Delahunty.  Mr. Delahunty was very involved in the Rugby World Cup as the leader of the Japan business.  He has the experience that can add to our insights on the impact of the Olympics in a group discussion.\n\nSports Travel & Hospitality Japan is the leading provider of sports hospitality and premium spectator experiences in Japan. STH was the exclusive provider of sports hospitality for Rugby World Cup 2019™ and previously operated the official in-venue hospitality program at the London 2012 Olympic Games.\n\n\nWe look forward to an interesting interaction in February as sports marketing and Olympics are of considerable interest amongst our network bosses.

SUMMARY:Feb C28 - The Strategic Office Environment And It's Positive Effects on the Team (VENUE: ANDAZ TORANOMON HILLS)
DESCRIPTION:VENUE: Andaz Toranomon Hills\, The Tavern Grill and Lounge\n\nThe Japan market is a hot market. It is not just tourism that is seeing the dynamics.  Hiring year on year is growing and there aren’t always the people there to fill the companies’ needs.  Recently\, companies are beginning to really see the importance of the environment for hiring and keeping staff.\n\n\n\nReal estate. Which area have you selected & why? Do you need a brand new Grade A building?\nOnce you’re investing in your own space how are you managing it? Is there someone in your office who is the decision maker?  Is it consensus decision making?\nWhat type of product\, configuration\, & layout are you choosing? Is it conducive to how your office really operates?\n\nYour location\, your office\, your team\, your management\, and your principles really affect the quality of your team.\n\nIn the March CEO Insights luncheon\, we welcome Greg Lyon.  Greg will share his insights or what works and what doesn’t.  What companies have done to create great team environments\, and what others have done to drive their teams away.  Greg managed sales for a large American office furnishing company in Japan and Korea.  He started his own firm and has been working with the major players in the market in the interior\, and design.

SUMMARY:2019 Nov (G3)- How The Hospitality Industry And The Hotel Business Is Changing In Japan
DESCRIPTION:The astute c-level knows that if you’re not growing with your product in the market place\, chances are\, you will be left behind in the future.  Businesses have to be constantly enhancing their offerings to meet the needs of the clients\, whether it is existing or anticipated.  The hospitality industry in Japan is not typical.  It has many players\, mostly offering commodity products\, whether it be small rooms of the business hotels\, convenient but disconnected from P&L or the higher end luxury hotels that don’t invest in the tech to make themselves most efficient.  With more than 30M inbound tourists in Japan in 2018\, it would seem to be a great chance for the hospitality industry is being missed. \nIn the November CEO Insights lunch (G3)\, we will welcome Mr. Seth Sulkin who has really set the tone in Real Estate development in energy\, shopping malls\, and now hospitality.  In our interactive discussion\, Seth will share insights into how he is building a new business that takes advantage of the changed market and where he sees the hotel industry heading. \nMore on Mr. Sulkin- \nSeth will share some of his insights on the Japan market\, where it has come from and where it is going.  His firm\, Pacifica Capital\, is now focused on the hospitality industry. Pacifica is building and operating internationally-branded hotels in Tokyo\, Osaka\, and Kyoto. \nMEMBERS PLEASE RSVP AT BOTTOM OF PAGE

SUMMARY:2019 Nov CI SPECIAL JOINT EVENT- Marunouchi: The Insider's Look
DESCRIPTION:With buildings going up all over Tokyo\, it’s hard to keep up with the rapid development much less the names of these new buildings. Marunouchi locates between Tokyo Station and the Imperial Palace is the first central business district (CBD) in Tokyo and it continues to be the most symbolic and prime CBD in Japan. Apple has opened its largest store in Japan in Marunouchi just last week. \nMitsubishi Estate is the dominant landlord in the area owning\, subleasing or managing the vast majority of the buildings. They are deep into a 125-year development of the area\, which has been highly successful to date. Join us for an insider’s view on their plans to stay on top of relatively newer business CBDs such as Akasaka-Roppongi-Toranomon (Mori Building) and rapidly gentrifying traditional CBDs like Nihonbashi-Kyobashi/Yaesu (Mitsui Fudosan) including renovation of their oldest building and turning it into a hub for leading business incubation facilities and their CSR effort to pursue environmental initiatives (e.g. purification of the Imperial Palace moat). Last but not least\, the tour will show you the latest office building technology and design up close. \nThis would be a great opportunity to walk through the past and future of Marunouchi\, Tokyo’s most symbolic CBD. \nWe’ll be starting early and capping everything off with a nice lunch. Please note the schedule. \nMeet @ 11:30\, Otemachi Park Building 3F\, Mitsubishi Estate Presentation room. \nPlease RSVP below so we can do the final set up for the event. \nSee you there!

SUMMARY:Sayonara Summer – BBQ @ Azabu Gardens (SSBBQ)
DESCRIPTION:Life is not just about knowing people\, it’s about knowing good people. There’s no beating the quality of CEO Insights members and our guests around a table. As an executive\, it can be lonely at the top and CI fills that void. As we close out and say “sayonara” to summer 2019\, we want to give an extra opportunity for our CI groups to get to know each other. SUMMARY:2019 Sep (G3) Case Studies On Collaborating As Teams And The Microsoft Vision
DESCRIPTION:The way in which organizations work has evolved. There are several trends that we’re seeing regarding teamwork\, even in Japan. \nDiverse and global \nTeams are becoming more diverse. In today’s work environment\, teams are often comprised of people in different buildings\, time zones\, or even different companies. For the first time\, there are five generations in the workplace—all with different background and expectations about collaboration tools. For example\, some are comfortable chatting on a phone\, others prefer e-mail\, or face to face. How is work evolving?\n \nTeam-based and collaborative \nThere is also a movement towards transparency and inclusivity in how decisions are made. Organization structures are becoming more flat which results in people being on more—often cross-organizational—teams. And those teams are dynamic. It’s rare that people don’t change on a multi-month project. And when they leave\, the first step is for all to go through their e-mail to find the information needed to get the new person up to speed. Being on more teams has also led to a dramatic increase in the amount of collaboration. The new way of work is team-based and collaborative. Workers report that 80% of their time at work is spent collaborating (i.e. in meetings\, calls). \nGlobal Teams are increasingly geo distributed. Employees are no longer in the same office\, let alone time zone. Per IDC\, 72.3% of employees will be working remotely by 2020\, making it more challenging to have face-to-face conversations. \nFor many employees\, this has made collaboration more challenging. It’s hard to maintain open dialogue when teammates are distributed. It’s complicated to manage the volume of information. It’s difficult to attend every meeting. All these challenges hinder teamwork and productivity. We’ll look at how some global enterprises have tackled the issue with technology\, specifically Microsoft Teams. \nJoin us for a insightful discussion at the September CI luncheon with Alice Graham.  Alice is Assistant General Counsel\, Corporate\, External\, and Legal Affairs (CELA) Microsoft Japan\, Co.\, Ltd.  Alice heads up the external relations department and has very interesting experience on both the legal and political sides of business. \nPLEASE RSVP BELOW TO CONFIRM YOUR PLACE \n** CI does not collect payments on this website for lunches.  Please note that you will settle your lunch order payment with venue directly. \nMore On Alice Graham \nAlice Graham is seasoned inhouse legal department leader with over 20 years of experience\, working with industry leading companies and currently employed by Microsoft Japan Co.\, Ltd. where she leads an experienced team of legal\, government affairs\, philanthropy and digital crime professionals. She graduated from the University of Florida School of Law with honors and has spent most of her career in the technology industry.  After 12 plus years in Microsoft Corporation (Redmond) helping to deliver Windows to millions of users around the world\, she is passionate about leveraging that knowledge to drive digital transformation in Japan and make a difference in the lives of all Japanese.

DESCRIPTION:2019 May (C28) It’s  A Wrap- The Heisei Era- What Did Japan Accomplish? \nJapan is famous for its economic transformation from post-War devastation to one of the world’s top economic powers.  But how much progress did Japan really make after the ‘Bubble’ burst?  With the new Japanese emperor getting ready to ascend the throne of the land of the rising sun\, we can reflect on what actually happened during the time of his father\, otherwise known as Heisei. \n  \nIn the May meeting\, we are pleased to welcome Mr. Keiichiro Asao.  Mr. Asao started his career at the Industrial Bank of Japan (“IBJ”)\, which is now part of Mizuho Bank\, and was a member of the Diet (both the House of Representatives and the House of Councilors) for almost 20 years.  He will share his insights on what happened during Heisei\, where he sees Japan heading into the new Reiwa Era\, and brainstorm with the CI members about the future of Japan from both political and economic perspectives. \n  \nMore About Keiichiro Asao \nMr. Asao is not your typical Japanese politician\, he is a business professional with extensive political experience.  At one time\, he was the leader of a political party called Your Party (i.e. minna-no-tou)\, and is currently a member of the Liberal Democratic Party.  He is one of the rare top Japanese politicians who are fluent in English.  He received a law degree from the University of Tokyo and an MBA from Stanford University. \n  \nDate – Friday\, 10 May 2019  12:30-14:00 \nVenue – \nRoppongi Hills Club: Roppongi Hills Club- La Cucina (Italian) \n51 fl.
