2015 May C20 – How Hollywood Is Changing With An Evolving Consumer

Change is something we all face in any industry or business and how we lead our companies through it will determine our survival.

Content – How we consume it is rapidly changing!  People consuming content in totally different ways than before. Understanding the consumer and the marketplace in the wonderful world of media and content in Japan.

In 2001, Home Entertainment, DVD & Blu-ray sales, overtook theatrical as Hollywood’s primary revenue stream.  New emerging distribution is on-demand streaming and Digital HD.  The business is rapidly evolving, toward a digital distribution model, but if you look at the numbers you’ll find the total amount of money consumers are spending on bringing movies and TV shows into their homes and mobile devices has remained remarkably solid, The numbers show a continued slide away from traditional packaged-media sales and rentals into their digital equivalents, Digital HD sales and on-demand streaming.  Home Entertainment is alive and thriving = more and more eyeballs are watching farting cat videos on YouTube or “liking” some status update on Facebook, but content is still being consumed, on demand, as heavily as it ever was.

In May’s CI luncheon get insights into the evolving consumer and how other companies and media businesses are dealing with it.

2015 May C8 – The Future Of Japan: Reigniting Productivity & Growth

With Japan’s declining population, shrinking work force, and production going abroad, Japan has a multipronged pitchfork coming it’s direction for future economic growth.

Despite two painful “lost decades,” Japan remains the third-largest economy and the fourth-leading exporter in the world. It is a nation with advanced technological know-how, a formidable manufacturing base, world-class infrastructure, and a large and affluent consumer market. This is a rare combination of strengths—and yet the world remains pessimistic about Japan’s prospects for growth and reinvention.

In May’s CEO Insights Luncheon, Georges Desvaux, boss of McKinsey Japan will be sharing McKinsey perspectives on the future of the Japanese economy.   This is something that the authorities and a handful of key executives have been discussing.  We are pleased to include CEO Insights members in this very important discussion and to be a part of the thought leadership for the future of the market and the nation.

2015 April C8 – Re-Thinking The Workplace

Following the visit to the Baxter office in December, CI members saw a clearly a positive impact of new work designs and environments on employee engagement, interaction and drive towards innovation .  The April C8 session is organized by Gerald Lema and continuing along that vein.
We will have special guest Mr. Daichi Amano (Principal, Design Director, Gensler and Associates / International Ltd.).  Daichi will be reviewing the most updated workplace projects in US and Japan, discover the key factors we need to consider as we explore the new workplace paradigm – one that empower, engage, and inspire our workers to meet the challenges of today.
Daichi recently toured some of the most interesting projects in the US. Currently Google, Apple, Facebook and others are currently engaged in building multibillion dollar new headquarters which aim to revolutionize the office space. Daichi will share insights on those projects and applications to other businesses.

April 2015- C20 Japan Legal Essentials Sampler With JD Marx

Free economies are clearly the place for any business or corporation to make an extra effort succeed.  However some global markets are extremely regulated while others are very loose.  Japan is no exception to having heavy rules and regulatory in some areas and looser management in others.  Business leaders must understand the marketplace and specifically the legal implications that affect the business as well as the clients.

In the April CEO Insights meeting, CI members will get a chance to meet with one of Japan’sforeign lawyers practicing in the country.  CI welcomes Jean-Denis Marx, a partner with Baker & McKenzie (Gaikokuho Joint Enterprise) who will share his insights in a different format.  We will have a “legal sampler” in areas that are important if not essential for bosses trading in Japan to understand.  Although, it will be a very open discussion, we plan to discuss the latest legal considerations that will affect your business in 2015.  Some areas planned are

  • Data leakage: what can be learned from the Benesse leak
  • Diversity in the workplace, not what you think it is: upcoming changes in labor law
  • Screaming trademarks: changes in trademark law that may affect your brand
  • Selling on the internet: will general terms and conditions really become valid?
