What is the Metaverse? Why did such a massive entity like Facebook make the risky move of rebranding itself META?

Understanding the metaverse is complicated, especially because it doesn’t exist yet. Although interoperability is a long way off, the term has become a catch-all for new digital, immersive, and social spaces encompassing gaming platforms, NFTs, VR, AR, cryptocurrencies and online marketplaces.

Some very big companies are putting big money into this space, and money tends to make things happen.
